FINALLY -- the December collage is finished, only four months late!!!
I did use two of those L-shaped brackets, but only after applying big blobs of gold paint to the threaded ends to make little feet for the crocheted shield. I actually had put paint on three of them but the third one went on leave before it got sewed down.
